Viridescent Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Green Steel
Since its debut in 2019, the Bell & Ross BR 05

In just four years, the “Urban” BR 05 has expanded into a collection of four different models: automatic three-hand (including a skeletonized model), power reserve (with an exclusive Kenissi movement), GMT and chronograph. The latest regular production model is the Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Green Steel, available with a rubber strap or bracelet and featuring a bright green dial.
There is no watch in the BR 05 collection that is not heavy. With its shape and lack of any elements that would lighten it, the entire collection has a thick, modern style that is very conspicuous on the wrist, and even more so with the 42mm wide steel case of the chronograph model. The BR 05 Chrono models that were previously 13.5mm thick are now all 14.25mm thick thanks to the new movement (which I'll discuss below). I mention the heaviness up front because while the extra 0.75mm makes this watch a little top-heavy when worn, these models have been worn well. Other than that, 14.25mm isn't too bad for an automatic chronograph.

The placement and size of the pushers allow you to operate them with any finger from almost any angle. The watch has a sapphire crystal, is water-resistant to 100 meters, and comes on an integrated bracelet with a butterfly folding strap (which may give some people a sizing issue). The watch is also available on a rubber strap for a couple hundred bucks less, and the two straps are easily interchangeable thanks to a push-button quick-release mechanism.

In addition to the circular grooves, there is a very subtle silver texture on the subdials, which creates a nice texture contrast. Bell & Ross is known for putting a 4:30 date on almost every watch, and this one is no exception. While not everyone's cup of tea, the vertical orientation of this display shows that it was well thought out, and the color combination is impressive. The hands are reminiscent of the Royal Oak, but here they are paired with matching baton hands and brushed numerals, which have the same rounded ends as the hands. One thing that caught my attention was the subdial hands, whose square base matches the shape of the subdials - a special attention to detail from the brand. Of course, everything is coated with Super-LumiNova, even the chronograph seconds hand.

Visible through the sapphire caseback, the movement features a custom 360° rotor, a 60-hour power reserve at 28,800 vph, and a cam-operated chronograph mechanism. The BR-Cal.326 replaces the modular BR-Cal.301 (which was an ETA 2894-2 with a chronograph module) and was introduced earlier this year in the Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono A523, the brand's latest collaboration with the BWT Alpine Formula 1 team. The biggest differences are the obvious increase in height (I don't see why else that would be bloated), and an additional 18 hours of power reserve. The BR-Cal.326 is now the standard movement for all BR 05 Chrono models, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see it fitted to all of the brand's chronographs in the coming years.
